Importing Signs from Turkey: Customs, Shipping & Quality Checklist (2026)

28 Ağustos 2026 • Signage Guide

Importing signage from Turkey offers significant cost advantages — but the logistics, customs procedures and quality verification process require careful planning. This practical guide covers everything international buyers need to know.

Step 1: Choosing the Right Turkish Signage Manufacturer

Not all Turkish sign manufacturers export. When selecting a supplier, verify:

  • Export capability: Do they have experience with international shipping and customs documentation?
  • Certifications: CE marking on electrical components (LED drivers), ISO 9001 is a plus
  • English communication: Essential for accurate technical specification exchange
  • 3D visualisation service: Reputable manufacturers provide renders before production
  • References: Ask for examples of previous export projects to your country

Step 2: Technical Specification Exchange

Provide your manufacturer with:

  • Vector artwork files (AI, EPS, PDF) — not JPG or PNG
  • Exact dimensions and mounting method
  • Material specifications (if you have preferences or local requirements)
  • Electrical requirements: voltage (EU is 230V/50Hz, US is 120V/60Hz)
  • IP rating requirements for outdoor signs
  • Colour references (Pantone, RAL, or physical sample)

Step 3: Incoterms and Payment Terms

Most Turkish sign exporters work on these terms:

  • FOB Istanbul: You arrange freight from Istanbul port. Most common for sea freight.
  • CIF (Port of destination): Manufacturer arranges freight and insurance to your port. Simpler for first-time buyers.
  • Payment: Typically 50% deposit on order confirmation, 50% before shipping. T/T bank transfer is standard.

Step 4: Packaging for Export

Signage is fragile. Reputable exporters use foam-lined wooden crates or reinforced cardboard for sea freight. Individual letters should be wrapped in bubble film and foam. Request photos of packed goods before shipping — this protects both parties in case of transit damage claims.

Step 5: Customs Classification (HS Codes)

Common HS codes for imported signage:

  • 9405.40 — Electric lamps and lighting fittings (illuminated signs)
  • 7610.90 — Aluminium structures (non-illuminated aluminium signs)
  • 3926.90 — Other articles of plastics (acrylic/PVC signs)

EU import duty on LED signs from Turkey is generally 0% under the EU-Turkey Customs Union (for Turkish-origin goods with EUR.1 certificate).

Quality Checklist on Receipt

  • ☐ Check all LED modules illuminate correctly
  • ☐ Verify dimensions against approved drawings
  • ☐ Check colour accuracy against Pantone/RAL reference
  • ☐ Inspect all welds and joins — no gaps or delamination
  • ☐ Test IP rating by running water over outdoor units
  • ☐ Check power supply CE certification label
