What is ACP Cladding?
Aluminium composite panels consist of two thin aluminium sheets bonded to a polyethylene or mineral core. They are lightweight, durable, easily formed and available in hundreds of finishes. The most well-known brands are Alucobond (Swiss), Reynobond (French) and Alpolic (Japanese), with numerous equivalent Turkish and Asian alternatives.
Fire Classification — Critical Specification Note
Following several high-profile fires, fire classification has become the most critical ACP specification decision. There are two main core types:
- PE core (polyethylene): Standard, lower cost. NOT suitable for buildings over 18m (UK Building Regulations, equivalent EU regulations). For low-rise shopfronts only.
- FR core (fire-retardant mineral): Class A2 fire rating. Suitable for all building heights. Mandatory for buildings over 18m in the UK and increasingly required across Europe.
Always specify FR core for any building above ground floor level.
Standard Finishes and Colours
- Solid colours (RAL/Pantone): PVDF coated — the most durable, UV-resistant finish. 10–25 year colour warranty.
- Metallic / brushed aluminium: Silver, gold, bronze and custom metallic finishes
- Anodised look: Consistent, premium appearance
- Wood and stone effect: Printed finishes for decorative applications
- Mirror polished: High-specular polished aluminium for premium retail
